Every now and again we are pleasantly surprised by what a certain microwave has to offer and that is exactly what happened with a model we’ve recently gotten our hands on – LG’s LMV2031ST over-the-range microwave oven. This OTR microwave is well-designed, looks good, performs well and has a great, highly efficient venting system.
Here’s everything you need to know before making a buying decision.
This is a beautifully designed, stylish microwave oven. LG have done it again. The LMV2031ST looks like a traditional, old-school microwave, yet LG have managed to make it look modern in all of its simplicity. This is the type of microwave that should complement every kitchen and fit perfectly well with other kitchen appliances that you have.
The tinted door glass is black and grey, while the rest of the microwave is stainless steel. The vertical control scheme on the right is pretty, simple and easy to use. SmoothTouch controls work great and require only a slight touch. The display is clear and easy to read, although it could have been a bit bigger.
This is not a huge microwave (dimensions: 29.8 x 16.9 x 15.8), but as always, LG have made good use of space and the LMV2031ST has a 2.0 cubic foot capacity. This is more than enough, no matter what type of cook you are and surely enough to prepare fully-fledged Thanksgiving feasts.
Overall, this is a very well-designed microwave oven and it’s virtually impossible to find any flaws in the design department. But, let’s see if we can say the same about performance.
Installing the LMV2031ST is simplicity itself and the instruction manual is clear, concise and easy to follow. The microwave itself works great and performs very well. The large capacity is, arguably, its strongest weapon and it makes cooking large meals a breeze.
On the other hand, even though it is powerful, this LG model also manages to stay pretty quiet and subtle. 10 power levels and a decent number of pre-sets make cooking even easier, while the 4-speed fan is highly efficient, yet not too loud. When set on Turbo speed, the fan moves a lot of air, but what’s best about the venting system is the auto-off fan feature. This nice little addition is something we haven’t seen before. It enables the user to simply set up the fan (it can be set for 1, 3, 5, 10, 30, 60 minutes) and it later shuts itself off.
All in all, the LMV2031ST performs well in both aspects: it cooks wonderfully well and the venting system works even better. The large capacity and ease of use, combined with its low price make this microwave one of the best over-the-range models we’ve ever reviewed.
