What Is a Drawer Microwave?

Just as the name suggests, a drawer microwave can be built into walls and under your countertop in your kitchen and pulled out just like a drawer. It is one of the newest technologies to rock kitchens across the world right now.

The cooking compartment slides in and out just like a drawer controlled by a button. Once your food is in the microwave, you press a button to push it in. When your food is ready, the drawer slides out and lifts your food, so you do not have to bend to pick it up.

This not only takes care of your back but also ensure minimal spills, unlike the tabletop microwave that is more susceptible to spillage.

Are Drawer Microwave Ovens A Good Idea?

We all love that electric box of goodness in our kitchens. The convenience it brings without having to hassle is one most people cannot do without. Imagine running late for work and having your coffee made in a minute or warming food without having to look for pans and pots in your kitchen. Now imagine all this without having to worry about spillage or bending to pick your food. It’s just like having your very own butler! Drawer microwaves are the best idea compared to the conventional tabletop ones.

Which Is Better: Drawer Microwave Or Countertop Microwaves?

These two microwaves have a sharp contrast regarding safety and performance. The table tops are only favorable for right-handed people, they are harder to clean after food explosions, and are readily susceptible to falling. Tabletop microwaves also consume a lot of work space and let us not even talk about bending to reach your food!

Are Drawer Microwaves Safe?

They are the safest microwaves you can ever have. Some of the safety features include passcode lock to prevent kids from tampering with it and getting burnt, and the ability to set them in spaces that are convenient for you. For example, you can have your drawer microwave set to your height just below your kitchen counter. The other upside is that it is in-built into the cabinet, so you do not have to worry about it falling and hurting anyone. Since it lifts up your food, spills are less likely to occur reducing the risk of burns. I mean, what more safety features could a microwave possibly have?

Drawer Microwave Pros and Cons

Pros

  • They do not use up your precious kitchen countertop space hence increasing kitchen efficiency. Everyone knows how much counter areas are valued and taking up even an inch of that space is a mortal undoing! They get into lower cabinet spaces you would not even know what to do with and even inside your kitchen walls!
  • They are child-proof because one can set a passcode to open. Because these microwaves use control buttons to operate, your child cannot get hurt in the kitchen compared to the countertop microwaves which can easily fall and cause injury and property damage. Since it can be modified to suit your height, it also becomes safer for you too.
  • You do not have to bend to get your food! Since it slides outwards and lifts your food up, you only need to it pick up. Plus the sliding out feature is attractive for left-handed people since common microwaves open from the right making it hard for the left-handed to take out their food.
  • They add aesthetic value to your kitchen making it look classy and clean. Sometimes anyone might not even notice it is there. Appliances all over the kitchen to look misplaced and even dangerous.

Cons

  • Drawer microwaves are very expensive because of the costs you incur to have it installed. You first need to create the cabinet, into which it will fit as per the size specifications, buy the actual microwave and pay a professional to install it for you making it a big hassle.
  • Since the whole thing is mechanized, faulty buttons or door will lead to disassembling of the entire microwave for it to be fixed.
  • Drawer microwaves do not provide space for heat to circulate and escape since it is compartmentalized. All appliances and machinery should be placed in places with good circulation to ensure they do not overheat or cause fire accidents. Because of this, the lifespan of the microwave is reduced which is sad considering its cost.
  • The warranty period for drawer microwaves is very small. With the increased risk of getting faulty, it is not attractive to purchase an expensive appliance whose lifespan is small and not getting the least security from the manufacturer.
  • Moreover, most brands do not offer free after-sale servicing to clients hence the client has to have it fixed by a technician. It should be the manufacturer’s job to provide servicing. After all, who better to fix it than the person who actually made it!
