Samsung ME21H706MQS Review

Samsung is one of the best known companies in the world, especially when it comes to technology, smartphones and gadgets, but they haven’t totally broken into the American microwave oven market yet.

One of their best known over-the-range microwave models is the ME21H706MQS and it is far from perfect. Here’s why.

The Samsung ME21H706MQS looks… unusual. There is no other way to put it. It’s simultaneously very modern but chunky. I think it looks like a robot from Futurama, but maybe that’s just me.

The control scheme is horizontal, which is fairly common in over-the-range microwaves, but the controls are not that easy to read and might take some getting used to.

The door handle on the right fits the overall design of the microwave well and perhaps adds another dimension to the device, aesthetically.

With the fairly large capacity of 2.1 cubic foot, this is not a small microwave by any means. The designers have made good use of space..

The biggest issue lies in the fact that this is not a microwave oven with a great life span. The ME21H706MQS is prone to breaking down; parts of it tend to stop working and need replacement after a while. Many customers complain about similar issues.

Durability is certainly not this microwave’s strong suit, but what about performance?

The ME21H706MQS doesn’t really excel when it comes to performance, but it gets the job done decently. The microwave is not that easy to use, mostly due to the way the control scheme has been designed, but food gets evenly cooked and reheated. Defrosting works well too.

As with most over-the-range microwaves within the price range, this one has 10 power levels, good cooking sensors and a fairly large number of presets.

The cooking sensors are accurate and work well. Presets such as Fit Choice, Kids Meals, Snacks, Favorite Cook, among others, are available. The 400 CFM exhaust fan does its job. Overall, this microwave has decent performance, but it is still pretty basic and offers nothing special or new.

The ME21H706MQS does the trick when it comes to preparing popcorn, reheating and defrosting food, but preparing larger meals can be a bit tricky, even though the microwave has a nice amount of space. In conclusion, performance is decent, but not much more than that.

Final Verdict: Performs Reasonably Well, But Not Worth the Money

The Samsung ME21H706MQS over-the-range microwave oven could have been a lot more attractive if it was durable and if it performed a bit better. Considering the price, it is simply not worth the money. The fact that parts of it constantly break down and need replacement makes it a bad investment, which is a shame because this model maybe had potential.

The aesthetic aspect is a separate issue – this microwave definitely won’t fit in every kitchen. Samsung tried hard when it comes to looks and maybe satisfied some, but delivered a subpar model when it comes to durability and performance and so disappointed everyone else.
